Nine Things I Am Thankful For

Today is thanksgiving so I have decided to make a list of people and things that I am grateful for. These are in no particular order.

  1. My friends

My friends are the most important part of my life. We’re there for each other through the good and the bad. They are what make my life more enjoyable. They all have taught me something. A couple of them have even saved my life in one way or another. I don’t know where I’d be without them.

2. My mom and brother

My mom has done so much for me. She has taken care of me since the day I was born, and been there to support me. My brother is there for me whenever I need something. Sometimes he will argue, but if I really need his help or a favour, he does it. It’s nice to know I can count on them both if I need something.

3. Demi Lovato

I am thankful for her music and advocacy. She has helped me and others through hard times. She’s my inspiration. She inspired me to become a mental health advocate and help others because by listening to her, I realized how much words can help others. Also, her passion and drive motivates me when I want to give up.

4. Music

Music has been a big part of my life since I can remember. It helps me through hard times, and there’s songs I play to celebrate the good times. There is music for every emotion, every situation. It helps me express my emotions and thoughts. It’s also a coping tool for me because it relieves so much.

5. My treatment team, and everyone who has worked with me in the past

This includes my high school counselor, the counselors at Niagara College, my doctor and nurses, my current counselor. They have all helped me become the healthy, happy, confident person I am.

6. Other mental health and human rights Advocates

I am really thankful for and inspired by everyone who advocates for what I believe in and helps other. It’s too much work for one person, and it’s too much work for ten people. I am thankful for everyone who does their part, no matter how big or small. We need more people like this in the world.

7. Comedy

Comedy is another outlet for me. It feels good to laugh at myself and tell jokes about certain situations. It feels so good to laugh and make others laugh. And I’ve met lots of great people in the community community as well.

8. Food

Food is something that I take advantage of sometimes. I know there are people who can’t eat everyday. I am very grateful that not only I have access to food, but that I have many options to choose from.

9. Education

I love learning new things. I’m always learning. I am grateful for grade school, college, workshops, seminars, trainings, books, documentaries, online resources. I’m also grateful the people who have taught me a lot too, such as my friends, teachers, educational assistants, co-workers, speakers, and Demi. I wouldn’t be where I am today, I wouldn’t be the smart person I am today, without the help of all of them.
